Your student plan

Using Your York University Dental Plan

If you are a full time York student, you almost certainly have dental coverage already and it was paid with your tuition. Undergraduates are on the YFS Health and Dental Plan, graduate students on the YUGSA plan, and both are administered by Green Shield Canada. You can use any licensed dentist in Canada, so it works here.

Not sure what you are covered for? Bring your student card. We look it up, tell you what your plan pays and what, if anything, you would owe, and we submit the claim for you.

Why we work for students

Still Open When Your Class Finally Ends

Most dental clinics close at five or six. If you have lectures until eight, a lab that runs long, or a shift after class, that is not much use.

We are open until midnight Monday to Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. You can walk in after a night class, after work, or on a Saturday evening when everything else in the city is shut. No appointment, no referral, no waiting a week for a slot that clashes with a seminar.

If something is genuinely wrong, you should not have to choose between your tooth and your timetable.

Getting here

How to Reach Us From Campus

We are at 6093 Yonge Street at Steeles, which puts us in the middle of where a lot of York students actually live. If you are in the Yonge, Finch or Steeles corridor, we are close to home rather than close to campus, and that is usually the more useful thing at nine in the evening.

Coming from How Roughly
Keele campus Line 1 to Finch station, then short bus ~50 min
Keele campus By car via Finch Ave ~25 min
Glendon campus Bus to Finch station, then north ~30 min
Yonge and Finch Bus or 15 min walk ~10 min
Yonge and Steeles Walk ~5 min

Everything in one place

Complete Dental Care for Students

Emergency and same day

In pain or broke a tooth? We keep time for urgent visits, and we are open late.

Checkups and cleanings

What your plan covers best. Catch problems early and use your benefits.

Fillings and root canals

Fix a cavity before it becomes a bigger and costlier problem.

Wisdom teeth

Assessment, X-ray and removal, handled here without a referral.

Braces and Invisalign

Not covered by your student plan, but we offer it here with payment options.

Whitening for graduation

Brighten your smile before convocation or interviews.

International and other coverage

International Students, CDCP and NIHB

If you are an international student, your York student dental plan is almost certainly your best dental coverage and it works here. One thing worth knowing: UHIP covers your medical care, not your teeth. A lot of international students assume otherwise and delay treatment because of it. For dental, use your YFS or YUGSA plan.

Most international students are not eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, which has residency and income rules, so please do not count on it. If you are a domestic student with no other dental insurance and a low income, you may qualify, and we accept it.

We also accept NIHB for First Nations and Inuit students, and we can coordinate your student plan with a parent’s insurance if you have both.

Farsi and English

A large part of York's community speaks Farsi. Explain it in your own words.

Everything in one place

Cleanings, fillings, wisdom teeth, braces and emergencies, no referrals.

Since 1979

Dr. Farah Karimi founded the clinic and the team has treated over 30,000 emergencies.

Dr. Farah Karimi

Meet Your Dentist

Your care is led by Dr. Farah Karimi, who founded Walk In Dental Clinic and built it around access, which is why we are still open at eleven at night. Alongside her, Dr. Niousha Zerafatjou, Dr. Mehdi Shadaloie, Dr. Mahmood Beheshtifar and Dr. Nastaran Niknamfard see patients through the evening, with hygienists Rose and Mitra Arefinejad.

A student should not have to skip a lecture to see a dentist. That is why we stay open.

You will be understood

Care in Farsi and English

York brings students from all over the world, and a large part of that community speaks Farsi. Our whole team does too, so you can describe what hurts and understand your treatment without translating in your head first.

York Student Dental Questions

Bring your York student card. We check your Green Shield coverage, tell you what your plan pays and what you would owe, and we submit the claim for you. You do not fill out forms.

The YFS plan for undergraduates and YUGSA for graduate students, both through Green Shield, cover checkups, cleanings, X-rays, fillings and extractions up to an annual maximum of roughly $600 per plan year. Root canals are often partly covered and major work is limited. We confirm your exact benefits first.

In most cases yes, so you pay little or nothing at the visit. Where direct billing is not possible we submit the claim so you are reimbursed quickly. Either way you know your cost before we begin.

Yes, seven days a week. Monday to Saturday until midnight, Sunday 11 AM to 4 PM. Call ahead on (647) 931-6696 if you want us to hold a time.

You can opt out during the designated window if you already have comparable dental coverage, for example through a parent’s plan. For Fall 2026 the window is September 1 to October 16, and for Winter students January 1 to February 5, 2027. You apply online through YFS with proof of your other insurance. One thing to watch: OHIP, UHIP and CDCP do not count as comparable coverage, so they will not qualify you to opt out.

Orthodontics is generally not covered by the standard York student plans. Unlike many clinics we do offer braces and Invisalign here, with payment options, so book a consultation and we will explain the cost clearly.

Yes. You are enrolled in the YFS or YUGSA dental plan the same as domestic students and it works here. UHIP covers medical care, not routine dental, so use your student plan for your teeth. Most international students are not eligible for CDCP.

Usually yes. Coverage typically runs to August 31 of the academic year you paid for, even if classes finish in spring. Book anything you have been putting off before it ends.

Yes. We coordinate both to reduce or remove what you pay. Bring both plan details.

Yes. Our whole team speaks Farsi as well as English.

Book Before Your Coverage Resets

Your plan year ends on August 31 and unused benefits do not carry over. If you have been putting off a cleaning or a filling, now is the time. Walk in any day until midnight, or call and we will hold a time for you.
