CDI Does Not Give You Dental Coverage. Here Is What Does
CDI is a private career college. Its student services cover counsellors, transcripts and academic support, but there is no student union health and dental plan attached to your tuition the way there is at a public college. If you have looked for one and found nothing, that is why.
So the practical question is not “how do I use my student plan here”, it is “what can I use instead”. There are three answers and one of them almost certainly fits you.
The CDCP
Household income under $90,000 and no private dental insurance? You may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan. We are a registered provider.
A family or work plan
Plenty of CDI students are working while they retrain, or are still on a partner's or parent's plan. Bring the details and we will bill it directly.
NIHB
First Nations and Inuit students are covered under NIHB. We accept it and submit the claim for you.
If you are not sure which one applies, come in with whatever you have. We will sort it out at the desk before anything is booked.

If you are paying yourself, you deserve to know the number before you sit down. These are our usual ranges. We follow the Ontario Dental Association fee guide and confirm the exact figure before starting.

Call us and describe what is going on. We can usually give you a range over the phone before you come in, so you are not walking into an unknown. If the full treatment is more than you can manage right now, say so and we will do the urgent part first and plan the rest.

Open Until Midnight, Because Most of You Are Working
CDI is built around people retraining while they earn. A lot of you are in class by day and at work by evening, or the other way around. Every dental office in the towers around your campus closes at five or six, right when you are least free.
We are open until midnight Monday to Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. Come after class, after a shift, or on a Saturday evening. No appointment, no referral, and no losing a day’s pay to sit in a waiting room.

Your campus at 4950 Yonge sits between North York Centre and Sheppard-Yonge stations. We are at 6093 Yonge, just past Steeles. Ride the line north to Finch, then it is a short bus or a ten minute walk. No transfers and no crossing the city.

New to Canada
You Do Not Need OHIP to See a Dentist
This trips up a lot of people who have recently arrived, and it is worth saying plainly. Dental care in Canada is not part of OHIP. Even Ontarians who have had OHIP their whole lives pay privately for the dentist. So if you are waiting on your health card, or you have just arrived and do not have one, none of that stops you from being seen here.
What matters instead is whether you have dental insurance, and what kind.
- Permanent resident or citizen with a filed tax return, household income under $90,000 and no private plan? You may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, and we are a registered provider.
- On a study permit or work permit? You are generally not eligible for CDCP, but private travel or study insurance often includes some dental. Bring the policy and we will check what it covers.
- Covered through a job or a partner? Bring the details and we will bill it directly where we can.
And if none of that applies, you can still be seen. We will tell you the cost first, and we will not start anything you have not agreed to.

Your care is led by Dr. Farah Karimi, who founded Walk In Dental Clinic and built it around access, which is why we are still open at eleven at night. Alongside her, Dr. Niousha Zerafatjou, Dr. Mehdi Shadaloie, Dr. Mahmood Beheshtifar and Dr. Nastaran Niknamfard see patients through the evening, with hygienists Rose and Mitra Arefinejad.
A student should not have to skip a lecture to see a dentist. That is why we stay open.

CDI Student Dental Questions
Does CDI College give me dental coverage?
No. CDI is a private career college and there is no student union health and dental plan attached to your tuition. If you have no other insurance you may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, and we are a registered provider.
I do not have OHIP yet. Can I still see a dentist?
Yes. Dental care is not covered by OHIP for adults anyway, so everyone pays privately or through insurance. Not having a health card does not stop you from being treated here.
How do I know if I qualify for CDCP?
The main conditions are that you are a resident of Canada for tax purposes, have filed a tax return, have a household income under $90,000 and have no access to private dental insurance. Our front desk will help you check.
I am on a study permit. Am I eligible for CDCP?
Generally no. CDCP has residency and tax filing requirements that most permit holders do not meet. If you have private study or travel insurance, bring it and we will check the dental portion.
How much is a checkup and cleaning without insurance?
An exam with X-rays and a cleaning starts at around $150 each. We follow the Ontario Dental Association fee guide and tell you the exact cost before we begin.
How do I get to you from campus?
Take the Yonge line north to Finch, then a short bus or a ten minute walk. About 15 minutes door to door, or 10 minutes by car straight up Yonge.
Can I really walk in without an appointment?
Yes, seven days a week. Monday to Saturday until midnight, Sunday 11 AM to 4 PM. Call ahead on (647) 931-6696 if you want us to hold a time.
Can you tell me the price before I come in?
Usually yes. Call and describe what is going on and we can give you a range over the phone. The exact figure comes after we have looked.
Do you offer payment options?
Talk to us. We would rather treat the urgent part now and plan the rest than have you leave in pain. Ask at the desk and we will find something workable.
Do you have a Farsi speaking dentist?
Yes. Our whole team speaks Farsi as well as English.
